It all starts when one night Jim, the chief mate of the ship Patna, abandons all the pilgrims in the ship and jumps into a lifeboat with the captain and the other crew. Jim does not know the reason behind his act, and he tries to cover his behaviour by constantly changing jobs and trying to escape from his past. Until, he gets a chance to start a new life in Patusan, a disconnected island from the rest of the world. There is no one here but the locals and Jim finds the appropriate environment to get rid of the disgrace in his past, to prove himself and become a hero.
